The lush rolling hills of the Devonshire countryside, known as Tarka Country, and the wild dramatic moorlands of Exmoor offer stunning landscapes for walkers or cyclists, whilst the golden sandy beaches and coves dotted along the coastline provide surf for the sports enthusiasts and lazy beach days for families or those looking for a more relaxing holiday.

Hartland is perhaps the wildest of all the Heritage Coastline. Sheer rugged cliffs hold many wreckers tales and offer magnificent views across to Lundy Island. The picturesque fishing village of Clovelly is a delight to explore with steep cobbled streets which lead down to a beautiful harbour.

Clovelly - North DevonAppledore, a maze of quaint narrow streets and fisherman’s cottages with an abundance of art galleries and crafts shops to browse. Nearby, Westward Ho! Is a traditional seaside resort with sandy beaches, a long promenade and amusements.

A popular coastal resort, Woolacombe has four miles of golden sandy beach, and Croyde is a magical place renowned for surfing with the village steeped in old-world charm.

 

Among the coast nestled snugly amongst rugged cliffs, Ilfracombe remains largely unspoilt. Many shops, pubs and restaurants surround its bustling harbour and quay.

Joined by the famous cliff railway, Lynmouth, with its attractive harbour and Lynton with its superb views, make the ideal centres from which to explore Exmoor.

Walks around North DevonThe attractive market town and centre of Barnstaple offers a unique mix of traditional and fashionable shopping and is renowned for its Pannier markets of local crafts and antiques.

In the heart of Tarka country the ancient settlement of Great Torrington overlooks the River Torridge, whose banks form part of the Tarka Trail, unspoilt countryside to walk or cycle.
